During the weekend leading up to the European Week of Sport, ENGSO had the pleasure to attend and contribute to several European events organised in Vienna, Austria. Here’s a brief throwback to a weekend to remember!
On 21 September, the Austrian EU Presidency organised the Conference on the Economic Dimension of Sport “Sport for Growth and Employment”, highlighting the different economic aspects of sports.
On 23 September, the Austrian National Day of Sports, the European Week of Sport was opened at the Prater Park in Vienna. ENGSO, as one of the partners of the European Week of Sport, had the opportunity to showcase our activities at the European Village of the event. The “Tag des Sports” is an annual large-scale all-family event, extending this year across the vast Prater Park to give thousands of Austrians the possibility to try out a magnificent variety of different sports.
Tibor Navracsics, The European Commissioner responsible for sport, opened the European Week of Sport, reminding everyone of the purpose of the week: "It's all about the people, and about making them active in the long run."
The European Week of Sport is an initiative of the European Commission, organised each year on 23–30 September. Next year the #BeActive week Opening Ceremony will be organised in Espoo, Finland!
