The NOVISPORT project tackles violence in sport
NOVISPORT (No Violence in Sport) is an Erasmus+ Sport collaborative partnership project that deals with the cross-border issues of violence, racism and all forms of intolerance and discrimination in sport. The project runs since January 2018 and soon will come to a close. One of its implementing partners is our Italian member, the National Olympic Committee of Italy (CONI). Find below their description of the project.
The problem of violence and different forms of intolerance and discrimination in sport is a topic of common interest for sports organisations. Moreover, the European Commission places the fight against these threats among the primary objectives of the Erasmus+ Sport Programme.
A possible solution to the problem of violence in sport, and numerous recent examples of violence underline this, is the education of young people, including students, particularly in EU countries where violence has increased recently.
Some actions have been taken aimed at young people between the ages of 10 and 18 in order to promote the values of sport, such as fair play, teamwork and education about handling victory and loss and to implement civil behaviours in sport.
One of them is the NOVISPORT project, led by the Centro Giovanile di Formazione Sportiva of Prato, Italy. The members of the highly competent consortium are Fondatsiya Stefan Noikov from Bulgaria; Comunità Nuova Onlus, CONI and the Tuscany Region from Italy; Asteri Somateio Gia Thn Eyaisthitopoiisi Gia Ta Spor Tin Ekpaideysi To Perivalon Thn Energeia Kai To Diadiktio from Greece, the European Football for Development Network from the Netherlands, Czestochowskie Stowarzyszenie Rozwoju Malej Przedsiebiorczosci from Poland, the Institutul National De Cercetare Pentru Sport from Romania and the Club Basquet Granollers from Spain.
On the basis of vast experience, the consortium produced a methodological guide to prevent violence in sport and a series of useful teaching materials aimed at coaches and educators. Furthermore, the consortium is committed to the creation of a solid, geographically broad and remarkably diverse network of organisations that are active, interested and competent in the field of combating violence in sport and the values of sport.
