ENGSO LOGO Poem
An azure bridge and a yellow star          There are those who might ask, why they are          The ENGSO logo, and what they mean          The answer's our aims, our hopes, our dream                    The bridge it will help span many a gap          People may cross without fear or mishap          It will link all the nations from every place          No matter the colour, the gender or race                    A star is a symbol, it shines in the sky          It's something to aim for no matter how high          From beginners to veterans there's always a place          For all who take part and join in the race                    At the ENGSO Assemblies we are but a few          Of the many millions, who want us to do          Our best representing their wishes and dreams          for the future of sport and all that it means                    So welcome dear friends both the old and the new          Your commitment ot ENGSO will see us get through          Our tasks, which are many with objectives so high          But our bridge it will help reach that star in the sky.

ENGSO Development Group (EDG) – 4th Newsletter, November 2006

In which direction should ENGSO go?

This question was the one of the main discussion-themes at the ENGSO Forum in Budapest the 27-29th of October. A draft strategic plan had been distributed to ENGSO members before the Forum. The draft contained suggestions for a new vision, mission statement, core activity areas and development areas for ENGSO. The draft also contained suggestions for adapting ENGSO’s internal structure.

Before discussing the future of ENGSO, the outcomes of two evaluation-tools of ENGSO were still presented. It concerned:

-         member survey conducted by e-mail to all ENGSO members

-         stakeholder analysis, consulting the main organisations in the ENGSO environment.

Summaries of these will appear on the ENGSO website as well as a summary of the presentation of the development process so far.

The draft strategic plan was then discussed intensely, with members present giving valuable input and prioritising ENGSO’s future tasks and responsibilities.

Important next steps

Next step in the Development Process of ENGSO is to adapt draft strategic plan based on the input from the ENGSO members provided during the Forum. A new draft will then be sent out to all members in December 2006. This draft can be used to discuss the future of ENGSO internally (within the ENGSO member organisations).

3-4th of February 2007 an open Reference Group meeting for the Development Process will take place in Bratislava. To this meeting the Reference Group participants will be invited (see below), but there is also an open invitation to other ENGSO members who want to give more input and discuss the finalizing of the draft strategic plan. If you want to participate in this meeting please contact the process-leaders before January 1st 2007. You can find contact-information below.

In March 2007 the EDG will submit the finalized strategic plan to the ExCom. ExCom will distribute the plan to ENGSO members, as part of the General Assembly documents. Finally we look forward to an interesting and active General Assembly in Helsinki the 4-5th of May 2007.

Your involvement remains essential!

The EDG continues to have as much interaction with members as possible during this crucial process. Besides the draft plan itself (most up to date version will be sent to you in December) there are many relevant questions, some of which were also presented in Budapest, that need to be discussed in your organisation as well.

Questions relevant for ENGSO’s future are for example these:

How will you motivate / stimulate your own Executive Committee in the ENGSO work?

Who will you nominate as a candidate to the ENGSO ExCom?

Who will you nominate to the different Expert Groups?

Are you able and prepared to pay a higher membership fee to ENGSO?

As mentioned above your involvement is also possible through participation in the Reference Group meeting in Bratislava on 3-4 February 2007, which is an open meeting.

Please forward any questions you may have related to the EDG to the process leaders:
