ENGSO LOGO Poem
An azure bridge and a yellow star          There are those who might ask, why they are          The ENGSO logo, and what they mean          The answer's our aims, our hopes, our dream                    The bridge it will help span many a gap          People may cross without fear or mishap          It will link all the nations from every place          No matter the colour, the gender or race                    A star is a symbol, it shines in the sky          It's something to aim for no matter how high          From beginners to veterans there's always a place          For all who take part and join in the race                    At the ENGSO Assemblies we are but a few          Of the many millions, who want us to do          Our best representing their wishes and dreams          for the future of sport and all that it means                    So welcome dear friends both the old and the new          Your commitment ot ENGSO will see us get through          Our tasks, which are many with objectives so high          But our bridge it will help reach that star in the sky.

Some personal reflexions on the 13th ENGSO General Assembly

held in Riga , April 15-16 2005

I always get very inspired when meeting representatives of our membership organizations, and glad that we, inspite of more and more members succeed to keep a „family” atmosphere. This time we could also adopt as new ENGSO members the Bulgarian Union of Physical Culture and Sport as well as the Macedonian Olympic Committee. I wish them heartily welcome and look forward to stimulating co-operation.

The preconditions for the General Assembly were very good thanks to the perfect organization and the great hospitality of our Latvian hosts, the Sports Federations Council of Latvia.

We also had the favour of having as guest the new Head of the Sport Unit of EU, Marianne Hildebrand, who informed us about the future plans and actions of  EU related to the new so called „Supporting article“ for sports. The General Assembly unanimously adopted an ENGSO – Statement stressing the importance of safeguarding grants for the sports movement in Europe bulit upon the surplus from lotteries, betting etc. I felt very glad that we reached this 100% unanimity !

The same was the situation when it concerns the priorities of ENGSO for the period 2005 – 2006: „Sport political actions on European level“, „Youth Sports Development in Europe“, ”Programmes and support for ENGSO-members“ and „Strengthened internal and external communication“.

The Secretary General (SG) of ENGSO, Marlis Rydzy-Götz, left after 10 years of engaged successful and highly respected job her position and I do hope that she did feel our great appreciation for her ENGSO  devoted work! As her successor was elected Predrag Manojlovic, to-day SG of the Olympic Committee of Serbia and Montenegro, whom I wish „good luck“.

Re-elected were Birgitta Kervinen, Finnish Sports Federation as Vice-President and Jean Francois Angles, French Olympic Committee and Jan Bohac, Czech Sports Association for a four years period in our Executive Committee – Team. I look forward to our further co-operation ! With best wishes to all of you !
